Shelter Movers Greater Moncton

OMISTA Community Grant is pleased to announce Shelter Movers Greater Moncton as one of our nominees #CommittedToWhereWeLive

About Shelter Movers:

Shelter Movers is the only organization removing the financial barrier of leaving abuse by providing free moving and storage services that address a gap in social service. Leaving abuse offers a turning point that reduces the impact of generational trauma. Using a survivor-centred approach, Shelter Movers Greater Moncton fully customizes each move based on individual needs, including language interpreters, pet fostering, security, transport, and customization of an appropriate volunteer team. Shelter Movers have a long-lasting and generational impact when families can move beyond abuse and contribute lasting benefits to their New Brunswick communities as healthy, productive, responsive, and mentally resilient community members, employees and advocates.

100+ MOVES COMPLETED TO DATE!

The first official service of its kind in New Brunswick, Shelter Movers Greater Moncton addresses a critical gap in services to individuals and families fleeing abuse. Shelter Movers Moncton is a volunteer-powered charitable organization that provides no-cost moving and storage services to survivors. Through the generosity of volunteers, employees, and local business partners, Shelter Movers Greater Moncton is working to ensure an immediate and lasting impact on survivors within the community by providing support as they transition to a life free of violence. They cover all costs associated with moving, relocating, and storing all belongings, as long as required, until a new home is found.

Shelter Movers Greater Moncton celebrated its first birthday on January 18. Working in collaboration with local businesses and community agencies, they have mobilized over 100 moves to date. A community of 90+ volunteers working behind the scenes in roles ranging from administrative to movers and drivers make this all happen.

Project – A Better Life for Moncton Survivors.

Shelter Movers Greater Moncton will use their $ 10,000 in funding from OMISTA Credit Union to help individuals overcome the financial barriers often faced in their attempts to leave violent, abusive homes.

Goal: All costs associated with moving, relocating and storage of all belongings, as long as required until a new home is found, for 100 direct survivors and 300 indirect, including children.
