Two Winners
All the fantastic applicants incredibly inspired us, and we thank our community for making it difficult to select just one community organization. As a result, we chose two!

OMISTA is Celebrating 85 years of Serving Members like you!

It all started in 1938 when the Moncton Shops Credit Union Society Limited charter was signed. The goal was to provide day-to-day financial services to the workers of the C.N. repair shops.

Fast forward to today, and OMISTA has grown into the second largest NB credit union with a focus on always putting members first. that Our decisions have been guided by this throughout our history, such as the one in 1967. In 1959, credit unions were the first to offer open mortgages. A mere eight years following this milestone, OMSTA members voted to separate mortgage loans from personal loans, enabling members the benefit of having two loans at once. Moncton Shops Credit Union Society Limited continued to grow through mergers with other credit unions in the area, leading to a name change dilemma. In 1970, the board agreed to run a contest in the local paper, with the grand prize being a portable T.V. After judging approximately 160 submitted names, the committee chose from OMISTA, South Eastern Credit Union and Greater Moncton Credit Union, with the majority favouring OMISTA - the credit union would hail from a slogan "Our Motto Is Service To All."

OMISTA has always supported the core principles that credit unions were founded upon through honestly, fairness, and trust. We have been there for firsts, such as offering the first registered education plan and wereamong the first to have ethically screened mutual funds. OMISTA looks forward to continuing to emplower the Fredericton and Moncton area communities for generations and lto many more firsts.

As a Certified B Corporation, OMISTA Credit Union is recognized as a leader of a global movement of people using business as a force for good.
