OMISTA Student Bursary

The OMISTA Credit Union Bursary Program is designed to assist deserving students in need. Bursaries valued at $500 each will be awarded on the basis of financial need, leadership not only in academic pursuits but also in citizenship, and volunteer activities. Since 2000, $77, 000+ has been awarded in OMISTA Credit Union bursaries to deserving students.

Eligibilty:

  • Student must be in full-time attendance at an accredited university, community college, or certified program in Canada as of September in the application year.
  • Student must be an OMISTA Credit Union customer, child of an OMISTA customer, or grandchild of an OMISTA customer as of February 1 in the application year.
  • Student must display a need.
  • Student may be entering any year of study.
  • No age restriction

Atlantic credit unions offer fifty $500 bursaries, distributed to community college students in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. Applications are posted to the colleges’ awards pages – links are provided below. Application deadlines vary by school, but are generally mid-October 2015 to late January 2016.

Special consideration may be given to students who are credit union members or can demonstrate a credit union affiliation.

Harry M. Daley Memorial Bursary

Applications available each spring. The Harry M. Daley Memorial Bursary was established in recognition of one of the founding fathers of the Credit Union movement in New Brunswick. Eight bursaries valued at $3000 each will be awarded each year on the basis of the applicant's academic excellence and financial need.

 Bursary Eligibility

• Open to students pursuing their first year of post-secondary education at an accredited university or college in Canada.
• Students must have lived in NB for at least one (1) year as of the application deadline.
• Two (2)  bursaries will be granted to each zone: 1 member/1 non-member for a total of   eight.
Zones  Counties
Valley: Victoria, Carleton, York, Sunbury and Queens
Fundy: Charlotte, Saint John and Kings
Hub: Albert, Westmorland and Kent
North: Northumberland, Gloucester, Restigouche and Madawaska

 

Norm Bromberger Bursary

Applications available annually each Spring through the University of Saskatchewan Centre forthe Study of Cooperatives.

The Norm Bromberger Research Bursary is awarded annually to an individual conducting research in the area of co-operatives and Credit Unions. The application deadline for the $2000 bursary is normally June of each year. Recipients must be involved with co-operatives but do not have to propose a university-based project.

All applications will be considered, especially those where the financial support of the bursary is essential to undertaking the research project.

Eligibility:

  • involvement in co-operatives and/or credit unions as a volunteer or employee 
  • a supporting statement explaining how the proposed study will contribute to credit unions and/or co-operatives 
  • an understanding that a copy of the completed work will be submitted to Canadian credit union and co-op resource centres
