Wallflower Collective

A Safe Home for All Animals

In Wuhrs Beach, Wallflower Collective is more than an animal sanctuary.

It is a place where animals escaping neglect or abuse find love, safety, and community. Aside from their full-time jobs, founder Missa and partner Jenna run the Wallflower Collective, which houses over 75 residents, from pigs to cows, each with their own personality and story. The sanctuary demonstrates the magic of human-animal friendships and the positive impact these connections have on mental and physical health.

From Dream to Sanctuary.

Originally from Ontario, Missa has spent her life advocating for animals. A vegan for over thirty years, she dreamed of starting a farm sanctuary to protect animals who might otherwise face slaughter or neglect. After she moved to New Brunswick, she adopted her first pig, Maple, in 2017. Over time, she acquired more animals and moved to a 50-acre property in Wuhrs Beach, creating the current sanctuary.

A Day at Wallflower Collective.

Wallflower Collective is dedicated to care, love, and community every day. Jenna, who now helps run the sanctuary alongside Missa, shares, “Every day seeing all these guys in my front yard makes every day happy, no matter how stressful it is. They can really just break every fence and terrorize me. And at the end of the day, I’m like, oh, well, that’s all right. I love that.” The sanctuary is home to over 75 animals, each with its own space, from the Bigs and Little Bigs pig areas to the front yard population.

Building Community Beyond the Animals:

Wallflower Collective is not just for the animals. It connects like-minded people and volunteers, fostering a community of animal lovers. Visitors of all ages are welcome by appointment, and the sanctuary hosts open houses and special events to let the public meet the residents face-to-face. "We have visitors from all over, like one family living in Cape Breton, they stop to say hi every time they’re in town."

Supporting Local and Banking Local.

When it came time to manage their finances, Jenna chose OMISTA Credit Union for its community-focused approach and low transaction fees. It suited a sanctuary with frequent purchases like feed and supplies. “Everybody’s been super friendly, and the app is straightforward to use,” she says. Banking local aligns with their mission: supporting a network of local businesses while keeping their operations close to the community.

Advice for Fellow Entrepreneurs.

Jenna encourages anyone considering starting a business or a passion project to go for it. “It will never be as smooth as you want, but if you can start even a little, you’ll eventually get there.” Having a multifaceted business inspires Jenna, she also finds her happiness by creating merchandise, “I love having something that I am passionate about that I can also apply other hobbies or talents”.

Looking Ahead.

Wallflower Collective has an open house on November 2, 2025, from 11-3 p.m., which includes their annual pumpkin drive. In addition, fundraising and sponsorship projects will be held in 2026. New merchandise will also be released, helping the sanctuary continue its mission.
