It’s a story of resilience, hard work, and community. Owner Damien is opening his doors this November at the Greenfoot Energy 4-Plex on Russ Howard Drive, bringing precision, care, and a love for all on-ice sports to New Brunswick. For Damien, this venture is the next chapter in a career built on learning, adapting, and giving back.

Damien’s journey as an entrepreneur began with Perma Dry, a restoration business he purchased in 2017. “I was handed a book of zero clients. It was starting from scratch,” he recalls. Over the next seven years, he grew Perma Dry to nearly $1 million in sales before selling the business in 2024. That experience gave him the freedom to reflect on his next move. “I decided I wanted something that I could put my time and energy into that was mine, something that fit my passion,” he says.
Entrepreneurship runs in Damien’s family. His parents and grandparents have been with OMISTA since at least the 1970s. “They’ve always spoken highly of it, so when it came time for my own business, I tried it and I’ve loved it ever since,” he says. Damien emphasizes that having good credit was essential when starting a new business: “If you have good credit, you can start. If your business fills a need, go for it.”
He also credits his family for teaching him the value of hard work and community. Growing up around his parents’ business, Beaman’s Auto Service, Damien learned firsthand how owning a business allows you to set your own hours, take care of your family, and make a difference locally. With hopes one day he can pass his business off to his children.
On Edge Skate Sharpening is a hub for all on-ice sports. Alongside professional skate sharpening, the shop carries tape, laces, mouth guards, pucks, water bottles, and other essentials for hockey, figure skating, and ringette. “I want everyone in the community to have access to the equipment and services they need to enjoy the ice safely and confidently,” Damien says.
Damien understands the impact of supporting local. “Even a small difference in price can be the difference between staying open or closing. When people buy local, the money stays in the community,” he says. He is also committed to giving back through donations and sponsorships for sports teams, charity events, and local activities.
For Damien, the province itself is part of the appeal. “We don’t have to think like you do in Toronto or Calgary. We can thrive here, support our community, and grow something meaningful. It’s affordable, flexible, and rooted in local values,” he says. New Brunswick allows small businesses to thrive without the pressures of bigger urban centres, while maintaining a close-knit community environment.
OMISTA has supported Damien and his family for decades, helping entrepreneurs from the very first idea to ongoing growth. “OMISTA knows me, they know my business, and they help me plan for what’s next,” Damien says. From securing credit when it’s needed to offering guidance, OMISTA has been a partner in Damien’s entrepreneurial journey.
On Edge Skate Sharpening demonstrates how local businesses strengthen communities. By providing essential services, supporting sports, and giving back, Damien is helping keep Moncton’s community vibrant.
OMISTA Credit Union is proud to support entrepreneurs like Damien, who remind us that when small businesses thrive, our communities do too.
