It is a community hub where military families, members, and civilians come together to connect, learn, and thrive. One of 32 MFRCs across Canada, the NB centre plays a vital role in strengthening families and fostering belonging for those who serve and the people who stand beside them.
From Support to Connection. “Our goal is to support the military community in every way we can,” shares Andrea from the NBMFRC’s communications team. “That means serving not only military families but also the communities they live in, because helping families integrate and feel connected takes all of us.”
The MFRC’s support extends far beyond what many expect. It offers programs for children and youth, mental health support, employment services, and activities for adults and seniors. “We run everything from playgroups and counselling to deployment support,” Andrea explains. “We also host inclusive events that are open to everyone in the community, not just military members. It’s about building a sense of togetherness.”
The NBMFRC reflects the diversity of the families it serves. “Our community changes every year,” Andrea says. “Families come from across Canada, and sometimes from around the world. We adapt our programming so that everyone feels supported and at home.”
From newcomers adjusting to life in Oromocto to families navigating deployments or relocations, the centre provides a consistent foundation of care and belonging. “People find comfort knowing we’re here,” Andrea adds. “Whether you need a friend, a service, or just someone who understands your experience, we’ll do our best to help.”
Beyond the walls of the centre, the NBMFRC works closely with local businesses and organisations to connect families with their new community. “Supporting military families involves connecting them to local businesses and resources,” Andrea explains. “We’ve partnered with places like the Oromocto Galleria, Dog Eared Books, and the SPCA. These connections help newcomers discover what’s around them and show that local businesses care about their community.”

As one of Oromocto’s largest community employers, with about 50 staff, the NBMFRC also contributes directly to the local economy. “Many of our employees come from military families, but not all,” Andrea says. “What unites us is the desire to make a difference and build community.”
While supporting the third largest employer in all of New Brunswick at the 5th Canadian Division Support Base (5 CDSB), Gagetown, the NBMFRC is integral to the province’s strength and well-being.
When it comes to financial partnerships, the NBMFRC values relationships built on trust and local understanding. “As a non-profit, we love that OMISTA Credit Union offers personable, community-centred banking,” Andrea says. “The team at our local branch is always helpful, friendly, and willing to work with us to meet our needs as a non-profit. Banking local connects us to the community in one more way, and that’s what we’re all about.”
The NBMFRC continues to evolve as it meets the changing needs of military families and the community at large. Through its programs, partnerships, and people, it remains a steady source of compassion, resilience, and hope.
OMISTA Credit Union proudly supports organisations like the New Brunswick Military Family Resource Centre, whose dedication to connection and community helps make New Brunswick stronger for everyone.
