Crooked Creek Convenience

Keeping Community at the Heart of Business

In Riverside-Albert, Crooked Creek Convenience is much more than a local store.

It’s a big part of what makes up the community. From groceries, gas, and hardware to local meats and seafood, owner Lindsay has built a business that carries a little bit of everything for everyone. For 15 years, she’s been helping neighbours stay close to home, proving that small-town businesses keep New Brunswick strong.

From the Sea to the Store.

Lindsay didn’t plan to become a business owner, but life near the water had other plans. “I was lobster fishing but got seasick a lot,” she laughs. “I wanted something I could do here at home.” When the opportunity came to take over the local store, she dove in. What started as a small shop has grown into a full-service hub that includes groceries, liquor, gas, local goods, and even daily lunches.

Community at the Core.

For Lindsay, helping people is the best part of the job. Crooked Creek Convenience doesn’t just serve the community; it fuels it. The store supports several local charities, from Chase the Ace and the Fireman’s Lotto to community food bag pickups. “We’re kind of the hub for a lot of local charities,” Lindsay says. “It’s nice knowing people don’t have to leave town to get what they need.”

Adapting Through Change.

Like many small business owners, Lindsay has faced her share of challenges from changing consumer habits to evolving regulations. “Some days are harder than others,” she admits. “But the people who appreciate what we do keep me going. The loyal customers, the ones who choose to buy local, they’re the reason we’re still here.”

Partnering with OMISTA.

When it comes to banking, Lindsay values the same thing her customers do; personal connection. “With OMISTA, I deal with a real person,” she says. “They’ve given me chances other banks wouldn’t. When I started, it was hard to get a loan. But over time, the trust was built both ways. Now, they know me, they know my business, and they help me plan for growth.”

That growth includes a new project, tiny homes, to bring more visitors year-round. “We get so many people in summer, but not enough places for them to stay,” Lindsay says. “This way, they can enjoy the area in any season.”

Banking Local. Living Local.

To Lindsay, banking locally means more than just convenience; it means keeping the economy close to home. “When I pay local people, that money stays right here in Albert County,” she says. “Supporting local businesses keeps schools, hospitals, and small towns alive. Without them, we’d lose what makes communities like ours so special.”
