OMISTA Student Bursary

The OMISTA Credit Union Bursary Program is designed to assist deserving students in need. Bursaries valued at $500 each will be awarded on the basis of leadership not only in academic pursuits but also in citizenship, and volunteer activities. Since 2000, $67 500+ has been awarded in OMISTA Credit Union bursaries to deserving students. 

Eligibility:

  • Student must be in full-time attendance at an accredited university, community college, or certified program in Canada as of September 30th in the application year.
  • Student must be an OMISTA Credit Union owner, child of an OMISTA owner or grandchild of an OMISTA owner as of February 10 in the application year.
  • Student must display a need.
  • Student may be entering any year of study.
  • No age restriction.

Harry M. Daley Memorial Bursary

Deadline is 1:00pm April 2, 2010

The Harry M. Daley Memorial Bursary was established in recognition of one of the founding fathers of the Credit Union movement in New Brunswick. Eight entrance bursaries valued at $750 a piece are awarded each year on the basis of the applicant's academic excellence and financial need.

Eligibility:

                                          



  • Students who have lived in New Brunswick at least one year as of April 20, 2007 and who will be attending an accredited university or community college in Canada are eligible.
  • Four recipients will be Credit Union owners or the children of Credit Union owners.
  • Four bursaries are available to be won by non- owners of Credit Unions.
  • Two bursaries will be granted to students residing in each of the following areas:
    • Victoria, Carleton, York, Sunbury and Queens Counties
    • Charlotte, Saint John and Kings Counties
    • Albert Westmoreland and Kent Counties
    • Northumberland, Gloucester, Restigouche and Madawaska Counties.

Norm Bromberger Bursary

Application available in Spring.

The Norm Bromberger Research Bursary is awarded annually to an individual conducting research in the area of co-operatives and Credit Unions.
The application deadline for the $2,000.00 bursary for 2009 is not currently available.  Recipients must be involved with co-operatives but do not have to propose a university-based project.

 

Candidates who have been unable to secure sponsorship for their study from the co-operative or credit union with which they are associated are urged to apply. All applications will be considered, especially those where the financial support of the bursary is essential to undertaking the research project.

 

Eligibility:

• involvement in co-operatives and/or credit unions as a volunteer or employee

• a supporting statement explaining how the proposed study will contribute to credit unions and/or co-operatives

• an understanding that a copy of the completed work will be submitted to Canadian credit union and co-op resource centres
