Online security is important to us. Our top priority is to protect the privacy of your MasterCard® account information in this environment.
Your Web Browser Browser Requirements Encryption Level Other Ways You're Protected Your Role E-mail Security SecureCode™ Protection To Report a Lost or Stolen Card
Your Web Browser This site uses the highest level of encryption currently available in North America to protect your information while accessing this site. Encryption is the process of scrambling information into an unreadable, more secure format for transmission over the Internet. Information is scrambled, or coded, then passed through phone lines or cable, and then unscrambled or decoded once it reaches the intended recipient. Encryption decreases the risk of information being intercepted and read by another person.
For your protection, this MasterCard® application is accessible only with a 128 bit browser. This level of encryption is the strongest, most secure form of encryption that is generally available in Internet browsers on the market in North America today.
We recommend the use of 128 bit encryption for all transactions over the Internet (for example, the exchange of financial information and the completion of application forms).
Browser Requirements: To properly use this site, you will need the following browser requirements:
- A PC using one of the following browser/operating system combinations: Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher: Windows 95/98/ME, NT, 2000, XP, or Netscape 7.0 or higher: Windows 95/98/ME, NT, 2000, XP
- A browser using 128-bit encryption
Check Your Current Encryption Level If you are using Microsoft® Internet Explorer® click on your drop down Help menu and go to About Internet Explorer. The encryption level is stated as "Cipher Strength." If you are using Netscape Navigator® or Communicator® click on Help then go to About Navigator/Communicator.
If you have a version that supports 40 bit encryption you will see the following message: "This version supports International security...". If you have a version that supports 128 bit encryption you will see the following message: "This version supports U.S. security...". If you are currently using a 40 bit browser, you will need to upgrade it. You may download a 128 bit browser from http://www.microsoft.com/ or http://www.netscape.com/.
Other Ways You're Protected cucardsonline.com is protected by Internet and Intranet firewalls. This important security feature prevents unauthorized external access through the use of hardware and software that separates the Internet from our internal computer systems and databases. This means that data flows through safety checks as it is transmitted to and from our internal systems so only authorized information gets through to our computer.
Your Role in Ensuring Security You also have an important role in the security of your financial and personal information when accessing your MasterCard® account information.
- Do not leave your computer unattended during a session.
- Always sign out and close all browser windows when you are finished viewing your MasterCard® information.
- Never write down your password.
- Do not share your password with anyone.
- Choose a password that is easy to remember, but not predictable enough that someone else can guess what it is.
- Avoid using passwords based on personal information. Do not use nicknames or the names of pets or relatives, and do not use birthdates, phone numbers or addresses; these passwords are more easily discovered by hackers.
- Change your password on a monthly basis to ensure that it will be less easily discovered.
- Use different passwords for different applications.
- Never save your password on you computer.
- Do not program function keys so that they will automatically provide access to Internet Financial Services.
- Familiarize yourself with your Internet browser and identify the security level it provides to you. Note the messages that your computer and software sends you while you are surfing the net.
- If you are viewing information on a public terminal you should always clear the temporary internet files from the machine manually. This can also be referred to as "clearing the cache". Caching refers to your browser's ability to store visited web pages on your hard drive. Caching is helpful because it allows a page to be accessed from your hard drive-instead of from an Internet source. This can help you access pages more quickly. However, if your browser retrieves a page from its cache instead of the Internet source, the page displayed may not be the most recent version.
It is important to periodically clear your browser's cache so your browser can retrieve an updated version of a page. It is especially important to clear your cache if you have received an error message and are trying to correct the error. See your browser's help menu for more information on performing this function.
- Install firewall software on your computer. This is especially important if you use a high-speed Internet connection. Firewall software will provide you with additional protection from unauthorized individuals accessing your confidential data or taking remote control of your station.
- Do not install or download freeware, demo software or shareware if you do not know its source.
- Install antivirus software and be sure that it is regularly updated.
- Ensure that both firewall and antivirus software have been activated before accessing the Internet.
- Unless you trust the source of an e-mail and are sure that the sender has an updated antivirus program, never open executable files received by e-mail.
- Always sign out when you are finished online banking and be sure to close your browser if you are planning to leave your computer unattended.
